ACCORDING to a survey conducted for Websense and Personnel Today, a quarter of firms in the UK have had to fire staff for internet misuse.

The survey also found that: # Some 72% had to dealwith a complaint of some sort to do with the inter net; # Of the sackings, 69% were related to the use of por nography; # Using chatrooms (26% of complaints) and personal e-mail (23%)were the next most common complaints; # 40% of complaints came from staff unhappy that their colleagues were wasting time on the inter net; Human Resources managers deal with an average of one complaint a month about inappropriate internet use; The worst offenders are those with their own offices - 57% of complaints are about surfing behind closed doors;
