When fewer than 20 of Professor Laurence Thomas' 280 philosophy students completed a homework assignment last week, he did not get mad. He went public.

The Syracuse University professor walked out of the classroom in disgust, then paid $108.03 for a quarter-page ad in Friday's Daily Orange, the student newspaper. The ad lambastes the study habits of the class and the work ethic of the Syracuse student body in general.

"Just once, I would like to walk into an undergraduate class here, raise an issue, and have the class be carried away by the excitement of the topic," Thomas said in the ad.
